The tin man located at University of Texas’ JJ Pickle Research Campus (PRC) is easy to miss and once served as a source of pressurized water for the former magnesium processing plant at its location during World War II. Congressman J.J. “Jake” Pickle, representing Texas’s 10th congressional district from 1963 to 1995, was instrumental in securing federal support for scientific research. The campus was named in his honor in 1994, recognizing his significant contributions to the university and his efforts in advancing research initiatives.
