Embarking on a road trip to capture captivating water tower photographs can feel like setting sail on an unpredictable sea of adventures. My recent road trip to North Texas was no exception. Join me as I recount my most recent Tin Men of Texas photography expedition.

My first stop of the journey was in Corsicana, a charming town with a rich history. After being satisfied with capturing photos of the town’s tower, I decided to find out what the historic Collin Street Bakery is all about. It turns out their claim to fame is fruitcake, of which I have eaten very little until my visit and the samples they provided were surprisingly exquisite. There I also had the pleasure of meeting Coby, a friendly worker who shared helpful information about the town and its annual festivities.

Originally, I set out with a plan to photograph just two water towers on this trip: the ones in Corsicana and Glen Rose. Little did I know, the journey would lead me to more unique discoveries along the way. As I was leaving Corsicana, I couldn’t help but notice a striking water tower in the small town of Frost. Its cool polar bear icon beckoned me to capture its image (pun intended).

Heading towards Glen Rose, I stumbled upon another fascinating water tower, this one belonging to an old plant in Itasca, Texas. It’s incredible how these towering structures each tell their own story, and this one certainly adds depth to my project.

As I was approaching Glen Rose, I had to make a tough decision. The weather forecast wasn’t in my favor, and the distance was greater than I was willing to drive after all. Reluctantly, I decided to put Glen Rose on hold for another day. Yet sometimes, the best decisions are made on a whim.

While driving back home, the sky began to show signs of a breathtaking sunset. With my trusty list of water towers I created on Apple Maps, I was able to make an informed detour to Whitney. The town’s water tower proved to be the perfect subject as I was rewarded with a stunning sunset backdrop.

In the end, my water tower photography adventure was filled with delightful surprises and unexpected detours. It goes to show that sometimes, the most memorable moments happen when you least expect them.
